JOURNAL OF A GEORGIAN GENTLEMAN

Gg

I have just bought a book called Journal of a Georgian Gentleman, by Mike Rendell.
It looks fascinating and I will add a further blog when I have finished it.

It is a project much like mine (though his is actually published), being based on the diaries and other writings of Mike’s gggggfr Richard Hall, a London hosier, who later turned farmer and who lived through much of the 18th century.

Mike is very fortunate that he had a large amount of material handed down through his family – almost a time capsule.

It is an extraordinary snapshot of a previously unknown 18th century life and contains wonderful detail which makes it a must for any student of the period and of social history.

Many of the ‘Musings of Richard Hall’ can be found in Mike’s Posterous blog at

I predict this will be come a ‘must follow’ blog!
